Funded by the US-Government Millennium Challenge Corporation(MCC), the Millennium Challenge Account-Jordan (MCA-Jordan) has awarded recently a $14.3 million contract to Mango Tree Construction Co Ltd to rehabilitate and restructure the tertiary water network in Zarqa / Batrawi area.
This contract, contract 2, of the water network project to be awarded,comes as part of six contracts aimed at restructuring and rehabilitating the water network in Zarqa Governorate to render a more efficient system that tackles the persisting challenges.
Contract 1, which aims to restructure the primary and secondary water network, was awarded on June 30, 2013 to Haymoor Cousins & Partner Co. and Al-Omaria Contracting Co. JV of $15.7 million. Contract 3 and contract 5 were awarded on October 28, 2013 and August 7, 2013 to Hussien Attieh and Sons of $9.5 and $20.0 million respectively, and contract 4 was awarded to Farhan and Fouad Abu Hamdan for Engineering and Contracting Co. of on November 5, 2013 of $15.4 million.
MCA-Jordan CEO said that the bids for procurement of domestic water meters have been received on November 25, 2013 whilst bids for contract 6 for construction of Basateen Pump station and Reservoir in Russaifah area will be received by the end of Jan. 2014.
The water network project will improve the efficiency of network water delivery and the condition of home water systems, and decrease certain costs that households in Zarqa Governorate incur to satisfy their subsistence water needs.
The water network project is part of a $275 million MCC grant tothe Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
