The Millennium Challenge Account – Jordan (MCA-Jordan) presented the Water Authority and Miyahuna Company with six vehicles worth $1 million to facilitate the maintenance process of Zarqa governorate’s wastewater network.
The vehicles, two of which have already arrived on October 16 while the remainder will be delivered this month, are part of a grant awarded by the United States’ Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to help improve the maintenance of the governorate’s old wastewater network, and the newly installed, 300-kilometer pipelines.
The new equipment will help Miyahuna, which is in charge of managing and operating Zarqa’s water and wastewater networks, shift its maintenance strategy from emergency maintenance to preventive maintenance and clearing clogged pipes, while also helping to prolong the lifespan of these networks.
In 2010, MCC, a U.S. government foreign aid agency, provided the Jordanian government with a grant worth $275 million that was allocated to carry out a number of water and wastewater network projects in Zarqa governorate. To carry out these projects, MCA-Jordan was created.
Thanks to cost savings achieved by MCA-Jordan while implementing the overall project, the company was able to offer over and above its program mandate the new sewer cleaning vehicles, plus a new 65-kilometer wastewater network in Princess Haya area and the construction of a new building for Zarqa Water Authority.
For his part, MCA-Jordan Deputy CEO for Projects Natheer Abu Arqoub expressed his delight that these vehicles were delivered just in time for winter, hoping that they will truly contribute to improving the efficiency of the maintenance process of Zarqa’s wastewater networks.
The Water Authority has allocated four of the vehicles to serve the Zarqa area, while the remaining two will serve the city of Russaifa.
